4 out of 5 stars Discontinued produce and traffic not reported by GAmazon   March 24, 2010

I love my GPS and was motivated to purchase this one because it offered traffic - only to find that the traffic option is slated to be discontinued in a couple years and this GPS is also discontinued by Garmin. Amazon should have made this info known upfront.

I'm very happy with this unit and would recommend it if you are looking for a gps with a few key bells and whistles (although it is not a fully loaded model it also does not have a fully loaded price).

PROS: Large 4.3" screen (easy to see with a quick glance), gives you warning a turn is coming ahead of time with turn by turn SPOKEN DIRECTIONS WITH STREET NAMES (helpful when there is more than 1 choice, ie. a shallow left and a hard left), a pleasant voice (Samantha American English--the one I liked best of many possible selections) and traffic reports (through MSN direct--haven't tried this yet comes with a limited time free trial). It also has blue tooth capabilities for phone or MP3 players (don't use this, but might in the future--you can disable this easily if you don't need it), an emergency locator function (VERY HANDY if you urgently need gas, the police, or a hospital RIGHT NOW). Finally, it has an SD card slot with picture viewer capabilities (nice but my camera does that already). This gps is incredibly easy to use, it is my first, and I haven't read the instruction manual yet, it's that intuitive! So far in months of use it has only gotten me lost once, and that was only because the place I was going was so recently built that many of the surrounding streets were still being paved... so I can't blame the unit.

Some things could be improved. The battery doesn't last more than about 3-4 hours, although unlike most other gps units, you don't have to buy a seperate power cable because this unit came with an MSN Direct receiver integrated vehicle power cable. The unit also comes with a suction cup mount which is not very effective, but bridged the gap until I could get something I liked better. Finally, a problem that is less prevelant than what I have seen in some other gps units--it sometimes mistakes a freeway frontage road for the freeway or vice versa (annoying but hardly earth shattering).

In short, this is a good basic unit (with a good basic price) that I would highly recommend. Oh, one final piece of advice, buy a garmin nuvi lifetime map update card Garmin nüMaps Lifetime North America Map Updatesto keep your unit current. Remember your gps is only as accurate as its last map update!

This unit is a great value for the price with many good features you'd expect to get with a more expensive version. The unit I recieved reboots randomly during the first 3~5 minutes of each power up but it works fine after reboot so long as the power stays on. This can be very irritating when you are in the middle of instructions. Amazon had my unit replaced within 36 hours. The new unit is much much better in terms of the reboot frequency (I got the replacement unit for 3 days and I only had 1 reboot so far).

Blue tooth phone connection seems to operate poorly losing connection periodically.

Overall, I am very pleased with this GPS. It is quick, accurate and at the sale price ($119.99 which included a $10 Discover Card discount) a very good value.

The usage is pretty intuitive so even without the assistance of the full guide (which must be downloaded online) most features can be readily accessed, understood and employed.

Though my particular Motorola phone was not listed as being compatible, I was able to quickly link it up with the GPS and make and receive calls. (The GPS does not, however, display my phone's address book.)

Like fellow reviewer George Hill in his "Cons" (#6) I too had some frustrating issues with both registering and updating (software and base map) via the USB cable and Garmin's website. Took a couple of calls (expect a long wait) to Garmin customer support and a few long download attempts due to files either corrupted or blocked by my computer's security software.

Even with the bit of frustration with the downloads and registration process, once it is done it is done and it will be the rare occasion when one would need to do any significant downloading again from the site. (You can use the USB cable with the MSN service to download routes and waypoints to the GPS. I've had intermittent success with this so far.)

Bottom line, bells and whistles aside, is that this is a very easy and accurate tool to help you get from Point A to Point B and is easy enough to use and employ for navigating to any particular site right out of the box.

I highly recommend it (notwithstanding the bit of frustration one may encounter if one chooses to update software and base maps).

This was the first GPS I bought after reading reviews and talking to friends. I am happy with the product.
